DIY: How To Make Your IKEA Bookshelves much cooler

This used to be a basic Billy bookcase from IKEA

IKEA is a very tricky place. The first time you go there, you're blown away by the vast array of practically free Swedish furniture and the mere fact that you can own something with a name you can't even pronounce. You also like that your ill-advised decision to buy a floor lamp that vaguely resembles a UFO only set you back $50. By the end of your second IKEA trip, however, you've learned the meaning of success and that meaning is Never Having To Go Back To IKEA For A Third Time. Ever.

That said, going from paying $60 for bookcases to $600 is a legitimate step that can really only be followed by consistently remembering what you did last weekend. And let's face it, some of us just aren't ready for that. So, as a means of taking a small step away from cookie cutter IKEA and but not quite reaching Grown Up Furniture, we've got an idea: upholster those standard Billy Bookcases into awesomeness. All the supplies, staple guns and tips you need to get it done are here.
