Find Your Next NYC Sublet on Facebook

Facebook is by far the best place you've probably never looked for a place to live. Whether you're seaking a multi-month East Village 1BR for under $2,000 or a room uptown for a few weeks, the likelihood of finding a decent place is relatively higher on Facebook than most of your other options. We'd recommend trolling Facebook over Craigslist for a few reasons:

1) Facebook is a more personal platform that immediately gives you some insight to the person who's posting the apartment ad. Search for NYC sublets on Facebook, check out your options and then check out the people who posted your favorites. If you're a fan of Care Bears and unicorns and the dude who posted his second bedroom for sublet is clearly an amazing beer pong player with a deep love for Tucker Max, maybe he wouldn't be such a good fit. Your potential roommate can put on a good show in a thirty minute interview, but it's not as easy for them to manipulate their entire profile to look totally different from how they really are.

2) Where Craigslist may hook you up with strangers touting a walk in closet as a second bedroom, Facebook brings a little more accountability to the deal. If you posted your own apartment as a sublet on Facebook, it's a reasonable assumption that you'd expect your friends to see it possibly refer their own friends who are looking for housing. Most are less likely to BS friends and friends of friends. As a sublet seaker, this means you'll probably see more realistic descriptions than the ones you see on Craigslist.

3) Less competition. Everyone and their mother trolls Craigslist for a sublet, but Facebook isn't as popular a real estate destination yet. Sure, there aren't as many options, but there also aren't nearly as many seakers or duplicate ads.

Next time you need an NYC sublet, log on to Facebook before trolling the depressing depths of Craigslist.
