Mint in Tenafly, a Breath of Fresh Air
Mint, a designer second-hand store, prides itself on the unique, fresh look it provides its customers, with even its most loyal customers hardly feeling like they step into the same store twice. Fortunate to have a steady influx of products, Mint’s owner Simona Blumenfeld Kornberg keeps her customers on their toes with an ever-changing inventory.
No stranger to fashion, Kornberg first worked as a model in Israel. After immigrating to the United States, in 1984, Kornberg further broaden her career in fashion by opening a European fashion store she called FUGA. Then, in 2000, Mint came to fruition. Originally located in Englewood, Mint was known to offer strictly vintage fashion.
Relocating to its current, coveted location at the corner of Railroad and Washington Avenues in Tenafly, Kornberg couldn’t be happier to be “right in the middle of it all.”
While most companies struggled and continue to struggle during the recent economic downturn, Kornberg’s business experienced a positive evolution. Benefiting immensely from customers “donations,” Mint was able to break from being a strictly vintage store and explode into the trendy fashion scene, shifting to 75 percent designer from its initial 25 percent. Mint’s new identity is dedicated to customers selling, from their own closets and collections, clothing, jewelry, overnight bags, and other accessories, to name a few, that are in “mint” condition.
The way it works: Kornberg’s reputation has been built on the honest relationships she has developed with her customers. Discussing price at the fore of the transaction, her customers know exactly what they will be getting. The stipulation: In an effort to keep the store’s inventory fresh, an item is returned if it does not sell after 30 days.
Mint is located at 15 West Railroad Avenue in Tenafly and is open Monday – Saturday, 10am to 7pm.
