Tenafly’s New Memorial to Commemorate Fallen Heroes
On July 24th, Tenafly received a piece of steel from the World Trade Center, which the town intends to integrate into a new 9/11 memorial. The piece of steel, presented by the Port Authority, will be a component of a dedication to 9/11 first responders, including four Tenafly residents who were killed in the attacks.
Tenafly received the steel on behalf of all of the fire, police, and ambulance corps members who responded that day and many days after to assist with rescue efforts and offer medical assistance. The Tenafly memorial will be placed in an area of the Tenafly Fire Department’s parking lot and will not only honor those who demonstrated extraordinary acts of bravery, but will also serve as a reminder to stand united against terrorism.
The Tenafly memorial will be a symbol to its present residents and those of future generations will have a tangible connection to the unfaltering resolve to rescue, recover, rebuild, and now, to remember. With this memorial, Tenafly hopes to keep the memory of those who lost their lives alive. It is more than a piece of metal, it is a mission.
